But too many of them were imported into new.familysearch.org, which provided the data used to create Family Tree.

While serving in FamilySearch Support, I occasionally saw complaints such as "Surely you do not mean that I have to add these 10,000 names individually!!!"
"Yes. Since Family Tree depends on having only one record for each person, we have had to take steps to avoid duplicate records. Of your 10,000 names, thousands of them are probably already in Family Tree. You can upload a GEDCOM file to the Pedigree Resource File in our Genealogies area to create a family tree there. Then, if you want, you can go through a one-by-one match and copy process to copy records individually into Family Tree. If you can compare and copy one record per minute this process will take you about 160 hours, which is a lot of time!" But instead they just upload their GED files, without checking if the records are already on FSFT. And if the person has had temple work done, the ARE already on the tree. Without checking, uploading a GEDcom leads to hundreds of more duplicates that will need to be merged, wasting time and energy.
Cathy Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10461484882494138496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038338942823653267.post-37302506870874099522019-11-24T15:12:38.290-08:002019-11-24T15:12:38.290-08:00I agree with you!I agree with you!Cathy Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10461484882494138496noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038338942823653267.post-11899566743911469352018-02-14T13:03:58.228-08:002018-02-14T13:03:58.228-08:00I have used Virtual Pedigree as a way of following...I have used Virtual Pedigree as a way of following lines that go back many generations. We are waiting for an official knowledge article, but the approval process is long. Anything that I say represents my current understanding, based on the best information I have available.
I hope you have read the quote from Ron Tanner that I added to my blog posting today. You will see that he offers hope that these records can be removed from FT, but that it may not be possible. He suggests delaying until June 27th before merging these records.
I think there are good reasons for not merging them until after FT is disconnected from nFS. Then the records can be merged in the logical order, and the new incomplete records from membership can be the records that are deleted during the merges.Bill Buchananhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03189884588719495849noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9038338942823653267.post-49371404275043492422016-06-15T08:41:34.360-07:002016-06-15T08:41:34.360-07:00My husband and I are the Director's of the Rex...My husband and I are the Director's of the Rexburg Family History Center and we have been on the front lines trying to know how to respond to and encourage our 70+ staff AND our hundreds of patrons through this nFS migration and eventually severing from FSFT! I am choosing to hold out and wait on combining these new "LDS Church Membership" duplicates that now abundantly pepper throughout my Family Tree as I want directive from FamilySearch before I create an even bigger problem. You did not...I like your handout and this article.

You did not mention the fact that, when using Tree Connect, if you highlight the text in the source that you want in Notes, Tree Connect will add that automatically. The Copy button on FamilySearch landing pages of sources will copy the indexed text to your clipboard for pasting into Notes during the source creation process, but on other sites like FindaGrave.com, with no copy button, highlighting is very useful. I am a big believer in detailed notes. It is so much easier to keep track of things when they are right there to see on Family Tree, rather than having to go to the web page to see the indexed information. Sometimes I use a transcription of the source that I have made myself, instead.

Another search tool I like very much is Roots Search, which is a Chrome Extension that appears (after you install it) next to the Bookmarking star when you are on landing pages in FamilySearch, FamilySearch Family Tree, Ancestry.com, BillionGraves, FindaGrave and a few other subscription sites. Go to http://goo.gl/WWgdm5 and search for RootsSearch for more information.

I use Tree Connect and RootsSearch every day. They are great!Annhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01572739124200052085noreply@blogger.com
